What are you most proud of in your 2-hour presentation and/or your senior project? Why?
I'm proud that I was able to learn a lot from my senior project through out the school year, especially on the independent components. I was able to execute that with my presentation because it was so informative. I am also proud that I was able to create different art pieces as well as finding something that I truly enjoy. This senior project helped me realize that my career should be something related to art, it's something I love. I am also proud that I was able to learn the different techniques that are out there for paper mache an was able to make them in order to get a clear understanding of the whole process. I am very proud of my 2 hour presentation because I believe I really taught the students something new about Mexican Folk art. The students we were really engaged in the activities that I also enjoyed my self and last but not least the set up of the room gave my presentation a good vibe to my presentation.

What worked for you in your senior project?
My interviews as well as my research. They were really helpful to understand what mexican folk art is and how to make each of them. This worked because I was able to show that in my 2-hour with all the different information I had on the different art pieces or even figuring out what my answers for my essential question should be, my interviews really helped me back it up and create good information for each of my answers.
(4) (What didn't work) If you had a time machine, what would have you done differently to improve your
senior project if you could go back in time?
If I could go back in time I would have included extra blog posts of fascinating art that I came across or even different art piece. I think this would have helped me in my senior project to get a good grade. I would have also found a mentor that specializes in my topic, it was really difficult because she wasn't really helping me through out my senior project.
(5) Finding Value
My senior project has really helped me find out what I love to do. Because of my senior project I was able to find out that I have a passion for art as well as learning it. I believe my senior project lead to wanting to become an artist, whether it's an animator, or even a folk artist. I can honestly say I love art because of this. This senior project has been really helpful in creating different mediums of art so for my portfolio for art school, I was able to create this in my independent components which will help me somewhat stand out when applying.

Interpretive:
What is the most important thing that you have gained from this experience? Why?
- The most important thing that I have gained from my experience from volunteering at the Latino Art Museum was being able to get out of my comfort zone and being more involved in the art world. For example, I would have never gone to volunteer. I was always to shy for anything, but volunteering there allowed me to meet more people like volunteers or people in charge of the museum. I also gained a better understanding of the art world and how exhibits work. My father always told me about how it was to run a museum, so I was able to physically experience that. I also gained the skill and experience of talking to different people whether they are artists showing their work or guests looking at the art.

How has what you're done helped you to answer your EQ?
-It has helped me answer my eq as well as create my eq. When I would go volunteer when I wasn't busy doing anything I would walk around the museum because I was always so busy working I never got a chance to actually look and and appreciate the art. When I would walk around I would see all these beautiful art pieces and I always wondered what inspired them to create them, this is how my eq was made. Then, I began to see the style of styles that the artists were using or what techniques what they have been using. Some of the style I have seen before because of previous artists as well as techniques. With every exhibit we had I was able to find my answers for example, building on your own ideas, with this I was able to see artists that have used a style and have included their own idea into it. With symbolic value, I saw that artists were adding symbolic value into their pieces, whether it was personal or just experience. I was able to find all my answers by volunteering at the museum, but I had to incorporate it into my senior project of Mexican folk art instead of just paintings.

Blog 24: Exit Interview
Exit Interview Questions:
1.What is your essential question? What is the best answer to your question and why?
- My essential question is "How can an artist best use Mexican Folk art as an inspiration for their piece?" My best answer to this question would have to be "imitating styles and techniques of other artist" because as an artist it is the first step into creating your own work that fully expresses yourself. By imitating the styles and techniques of other artists you begin to experiment with certain styles that you like that fully satisfy you. For example Pedro Linares who created his own style then, Saulo Moreno started imitating the same type of techniques in making the paper mache figures, because Pedro was the original creater of the alebrijes that were extremely popular Saulo started creating his own style. Saulo then named this style the alambroide technique in the paper mache world. He imitated Pedro's work that ultimately influenced and lead him to his own unique style. When I would volunteer at the Latino Art Museum with my mentor I was able to observe the displayed work of artists that depicted the work of famous people, in other words I was able to see how some of the artist were influenced by some of the most memorable artists in history. For example artist that would create a lot of abstract like picasso.
2. What process did you take to arrive to your answer?
-On my 4th interview, my interviewee was able to help me with my answer because he too is an artist. He had personal experience with imitating other peoples work. He too imitated different styles and techniques of other artist in order to find his own then add his own ideas into his work and changing the techniques and the styles that fit with his own idea. He experimented with cubisum, distortion, sculptures, paintings until he was able to create his own style based off of what he had imitated when he was younger. Because he imitated these different styles and techniques of past artists he was enlightened and found his forte in the art world. He built upon the idea of distortion/abstract to create his own art style. He also created different rock sculptures like the Olmec heads from the ancient Olmec civilizations with a different style to it.
3. What problems did you face and how did you resolve them?
-The problems that I faced was finding a mentor that is a folk artist, I had to adjust to learning from just a painter who was did not have any sort of deep roots in folk art. It was difficult because she was only able to help in the painting aspects of art because she was not able to help me make alebrijes, or paper mache sculptures. I resolved this problem by asking more questions and interpreting them in a way that would help me in my senior project regarding folk art. It was difficult to find articles that had the minimum requirement of 700 words, because of this I would go to libraries and find another alternative but that didn't work either. So, I started to research more in depth of a topic that I had some knowledge on.
4. What are the two most significant sources you used to answer your essential question and why?
-My two significant sources would be my 5th interview and the website mexicanfolkartguide.com. In my 4th interview I learned what my possible answers were. Since my interviewee used to create folk art, he was able to add his own experience into the questions and gave examples for each. My 4th interview was also helped my throughout my independent component, he guided me through different steps of creating folk art based off of his own experience. For example when I was creating the sermel type of paper mache he was able to teach me step by step how to make it because he would make trips down to Mexico and capture videos of actual folk artists creating what I was making. The articles of the history of Mexican Folk art really helped me understand what folk art is in Mexico, it's not only art, but and piece that represents Mexico and their culture. I was able learn about different techniques or art pieces that I had not yet heard about, I also learned more about my culture and how significant it is to me.For example, how much time it actually takes to create a piece and how precious they are. For example the Article on the Sermel workshop. I had no idea they had a name for that or how they were created. This website gave me step by step instructions of how to make the art pieces. This website showed me the origins and history,

I interviewed Alexis Teiseira, and she is in West house.
2. What ideas do you have for your senior project and why?
"I've been thinking about having my senior project be on Early Childhood Development because I've always liked working with children and my cousin is autistic and I liked volunteering with them but I found that it was very intimidating to work with them so I'm just planning on having my senior project be on a kindergarden teacher."
3. What do you plan to do for your summer 10 hours mentorship experience?
"I was planning on going to my middle school where my siblings go and volunteer at the kinder garden class rooms or maybe volunteer with my boyfriends mom work. She at a private type school for day care/kinder garden."
4. What do you hope to see or expect in watching the 2013 2-hour presentations?
" I expect to see different ideas that I can use for my presentation or simply the organization of the presentation."

Interpretive:
All the art work that I made for my independent component represents my senior project. I picked art piece that are very popular in Mexico, for instance the Posada skeletons. Posada's art pieces are a part of Mexico's history as well as the true meaning of the day of the dead. In Mexico they use a lot of paper mache figures and a lot of those pieces require wire frames to make figures.
Applied:
My independent component helped me answer on of my questions from my EQ because in Mexico, all their art pieces have history in them. For instance pinatas, they have been around for decades. They are made simply with wire and paper. When I decided to make the Skeleton with Monarch Wings I thought how pretty similar they are to pinatas. They both require you to make a figure with wire then apply all the paper and decorate. It was also very helpful because with this component I was able to somewhat master the Sermel paper mache technique that is used in Tonala, Mexico. I was able to learn from the mistakes in the beginning and correct them by making a better papier mache figure.
